The contradictions and haste in the investigation into the assassination of Chérubin Okende provoke strong reactions from the political opposition

The contradictions surrounding the investigation into the assassination of the former Minister of Transport, Chérubin Okende, have provoked strong reactions within the political opposition. The political leadership of Ensemble pour la République is concerned about the hasty assertions of the public prosecutor at the Court of Cassation, who allegedly disclosed the first conclusions of the investigation without even having carried out the autopsy. This haste and these contradictions make the opposition fear a manipulation of the investigation and a desire to divert the real leads of the assassination.

In a press conference, the secretary general of the party Together for the Republic, Dieudonné Bolengetenge, expressed his indignation at the statements of the general prosecutor. He had first declared that Chérubin Okende had been found dead in his vehicle with a bullet which had passed through his body, before qualifying his remarks by affirming that it was necessary to wait for the autopsy to determine the exact circumstances of the death. According to Bolengetenge, this confusion and subsequent questioning of the prosecutor’s remarks call into question the credibility of the investigation.

The Secretary General of Ensemble pour la République insists on the importance of carrying out the autopsy to establish the cause and circumstances of the death of Chérubin Okende. He also underlines that this autopsy would make it possible to go back to the authors and sponsors of this assassination. He recalls that, according to Congolese law, the preparatory investigation of the investigation is secret and regrets that the public prosecutor made a public statement without waiting for the conclusions of an impartial investigation.

Bolengetenge also criticizes the statements of other members of the government who allegedly engaged in manipulations and dubious comparisons in this affair. He insists on the need to await the conclusions of an impartial international commission of inquiry, in accordance with the declarations of the President of the Republic.

In a context where trust in the judicial institutions is already fragile, the haste and contradictions in the investigation into the assassination of Chérubin Okende fuel doubts and questions. The political opposition calls for an independent international investigation to shed light on this affair and punish those responsible. The quest for justice and truth remains a crucial issue for consolidating stability and confidence within Congolese society
