“Stability in the DRC: Political dialogue, an essential solution according to CASE”

In the spotlight: Political dialogue as a solution for stability in the DRC

In its July 14, 2023 statement, the African Commission for the Supervision of Elections (CASE) called for political dialogue to resolve the crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). According to CASE, the growing insecurity in the country is orchestrated to repress the people and political opponents. Publicly identified individuals utter threats and insults without being reprimanded by the government. This situation is of great concern to the Congolese population and the living forces of the country.

Political opponent Moïse Katumbi is particularly targeted and is the subject of a campaign of harassment. CASE denounces the restrictions imposed on it, as well as the assassinations and imprisonment of members of its party. According to the organization, these acts aim to isolate the presidential candidate from the electoral process.

In addition to this, some ill-intentioned individuals have taken legal action against Catholic Church figures in the DRC. CASE deplores this attempt to restrict the role of the Church in the country, despite the massive support of the Congolese people and political parties for their boycott of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI).

Faced with this situation, CASE invites President Félix Tshisekedi to organize meetings to stabilize the democratic process in the DRC. These meetings would make it possible to assess the political situation, electoral governance, promote national reconciliation and set up a peaceful transition with a view to inclusive and credible elections.

In conclusion, the political dialogue proposal made by CASE seems to be a promising solution to ensure the stability and development of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is essential that all stakeholders engage in this process to promote democracy and ensure a better future for all Congolese. The time has come to put differences aside and work together for a more peaceful and prosperous future
