Kinshasa, the capital of the DRC, is preparing to welcome a “city of trades” which will provide training and preparation for the professional world. The foundation stone of this promising project was laid on July 20, 2023 by President Félix Tshisekedi.
This “city of trades” will be located at the Agricultural Institute of Mombele, in the commune of Limete, in Kinshasa. Its main objective is to prepare young Congolese for their professional future by offering them appropriate training.
This project is the result of a partnership between the DRC, Belgium and Egypt. Its ambition is to reduce the unemployment rate among young people and to promote a better match between training and employment.
The Cité des Métiers, according to its International Charter, is a space for resources and advice dedicated to orientation and professional life. It is accessible free of charge and anonymously to all audiences.
Its objective is to help individuals prepare for their professional future by offering them a multitude of services, such as individual advice, a documentary and digital space, and many more.
The Minister of Vocational Training and Trades, Antoinette Kipulu Kabenga, stressed that this “city of trades” represents a great opportunity for the Congolese population, in particular for the youth, to benefit from a unified framework for promotion, orientation, popularization of trades and innovation in entrepreneurship. The ultimate objective is to reduce the unemployment rate and allow everyone to find their place in the labor market.
This initiative bears witness to the Congolese government’s commitment to vocational training and the fight against youth unemployment. By offering appropriate training, the “city of trades” will contribute to the professional development of young Congolese and to the economic growth of the country.
The laying of the first stone of the “city of trades” in Kinshasa marks the beginning of a new era of opportunity and hope for Congolese youth
