Guide for communities: Understanding the impacts of hydrocarbon exploitation

The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for the Monitoring of Reforms and Public Action (CORAP) recently launched an essential guide on the consequences of hydrocarbon exploitation on communities. This initiative aims to inform the population about the issues related to this sector.

Emmanuel Musuyu, coordinator of CORAP, pointed out during an online and face-to-face conference that many inhabitants of the Democratic Republic of Congo are not aware of the hydrocarbon exploitation activities in the country. This is why CORAP has decided to provide a guide in order to enlighten the population on the basic concepts and the essential notions of this sector.

This guide offers an in-depth analysis of the impacts of hydrocarbon exploitation on the environment, the economy and local communities. It also presents concrete examples from other countries, such as Nigeria and the United States, to illustrate the consequences of this activity.

By downloading this document, readers will be able to better understand the issues surrounding the exploitation of hydrocarbons. Key information on oil and gas blocks in the DRC, as well as renewable energy and pollution, is presented in a clear and accessible way.

This guide is therefore proving to be a valuable tool for raising public awareness and enabling a better understanding of the impacts of hydrocarbon exploitation. It thus contributes to collective awareness and reflection on sustainable energy alternatives.

CORAP strongly encourages the distribution of this guide and is launching a two-month media campaign to ensure its wide distribution. It is essential to inform local communities about the implications of hydrocarbon exploitation, in order to foster an open and informed dialogue on this crucial subject.

By downloading the guide on the impacts of hydrocarbon exploitation, each individual can play a role in raising awareness and educating the population, thus contributing to a more sustainable and responsible future for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
