Political news in the Democratic Republic of the Congo: the Republican opposition expresses its concerns over the electoral calendar
In a political statement, Me Constant Mutamba Tungunga, President of DYPRO (Dynamics for the Republic), spokesperson for the Republican opposition in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), expressed his concerns about the trend to prolong and expand the electoral calendar to satisfy the whims of politicians.
The Republican opposition reminds the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) that the deadlines of the calendar are strict and that any modification of the dates of its activities must be the subject of prior consultation with all the stakeholders. She also points out that the opposition had submitted its candidacies in all the electoral constituencies of the country within the given deadlines. However, she was surprised to learn that the CENI decided to extend the required deadline for another seven days.
While encouraging the political class to take advantage of this opportunity to finalize the procedure for compiling candidacy files, the Republican opposition urges the CENI to ensure that all political actors receive fair treatment in the registration of candidacies. .
This statement highlights the tensions and concerns within the Republican opposition regarding possible changes to the electoral calendar. Politicians are often accused of wanting to influence or delay elections by playing on deadlines. It is therefore essential to ensure transparency and fairness throughout the electoral process, in order to preserve trust and the legitimacy of the results.
It remains to be seen how the CENI will respond to these concerns and whether adjustments will be made to ensure a transparent and credible electoral process in the Democratic Republic of Congo
