Mobondo militiamen pushed back by the FARDC: security in Kenge remains fragile

The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) recently repelled an attack by Mobondo militiamen in the village of Nselemwedi, located in Kenge territory, in the Kwango region.

According to local sources, many attackers were neutralized during this clash. The spokesman for the 11th military region, Lieutenant Jacques Kienge, said that the militiamen continue to operate in several other villages in the same region, as well as in that of Popokabaka.

Although the number of casualties was not specified, the bodyguard of a militia leader named Papy Kifo surrendered to the FARDC, handing over his AK 12 weapon and his machete. This surrender testifies to the pressure exerted by the security forces on the armed groups in the region.

Major General Jonas Padiri, commander of operations in this area, called on the militiamen to lay down their arms and surrender. He also asks the population not to flee into the forest to avoid being confused with the armed fighters.

However, despite the efforts made by the FARDC, the situation remains precarious in Kenge. The Mobondo militiamen continue to sow terror in the region, which calls for constant vigilance on the part of the authorities and the population.

This attack by Mobondo militiamen once again highlights the persistent security challenges in parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo
