In a one-to-one meeting of about 45 minutes, Jean-Claude Vuemba, president of the Congolese People’s Movement for the Republic (MPCR) party and former president of the Provincial Assembly of Kongo-Central, met the Nobel Prize Congolese Peacemaker, Doctor Denis Mukwege. This meeting, which marks Jean-Claude Vuemba’s first official political outing since his resignation, was an opportunity for the two personalities to discuss issues of importance to the country.
The two politicians expressed their strong demand for justice to be done in the case of the murder of former minister and national deputy Chérubin Okende, who was found dead on Thursday 13 July. They stressed the importance that those responsible for this crime be brought to justice, in order to put an end to the impunity that reigns in the country.
Jean-Claude Vuemba and Denis Mukwege also raised the issue of the insults uttered against the Democratic Republic of Congo by the Burundian and Kenyan presidents, particularly with regard to the restructuring of its security forces. They insisted on the importance for the Congolese authorities to no longer tolerate such insults and to defend the country’s honor and sovereignty.
In addition, the discussion between the two political personalities also focused on the expansion of hospital centers, in particular the establishment of the Panzi Hospital Center in Kinshasa. They stressed the urgency of strengthening health infrastructure and promoting social and political solidarity to face the country’s health challenges.
This meeting between Jean-Claude Vuemba and Denis Mukwege highlights the importance of unity and the mobilization of political actors and civil society to fight against injustice, uphold national sovereignty and promote social and country health. This is an important step in building a stronger and fairer Congo
