Assassination of MP Chérubin Okende: Investigation and conviction of the perpetrators

The caucus of national deputies of Sankuru reacted strongly following the assassination of deputy Chérubin Okende. In an official statement, Caucus Chairman Emery Okunji condemned in the strongest terms this criminal act against a worthy son of Sankuru Province.

The statement calls on the competent authorities to carry out a serious and objective investigation to shed light on this heinous act. He also calls for the perpetrators of this crime to be severely punished.

Chérubin Okende, former Minister of Transport and senior official of Moïse Katumbi’s party, was kidnapped before being found dead in his car. His assassination comes on top of a series of violence and arrests taking place in the country less than six months before the elections.

The climate of terror that currently reigns in Kinshasa and in certain cities of the country is worrying. Political opponents, such as Salomon Kalonda and Mike Mukebayi, have been arrested, while others, such as Franck Diongo, have been released after prolonged detention.

The situation underscores the importance of independent and impartial justice in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. President Félix Tshisekedi recently called for the renovation of the country’s judicial system to ensure a strong rule of law.

For its part, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) has taken measures to facilitate the filing of candidates for the next elections. However, it is essential that these elections take place in a climate of security and respect for human rights.

At the same time, cultural and artistic events continue to take place in several cities across the country. The FestiRAS festival, devoted to rap and slam, had a second unmissable edition in Bukavu. Renowned artists such as La Fouine and MPR Yekima de Belart were present.

In another register, the security situation remains worrying in certain areas, notably in Beni where a deadly ambush cost the life of an army officer and a representative of civil society. The Congolese armed forces (FARDC) continue to fight against the armed groups that operate in the region.

Finally, efforts are also made to promote education and the eradication of anti-values in the neighborhoods of Kinshasa. The authorities are working to put in place measures aimed at preserving moral values and providing children with an environment conducive to their development.

In a context marked by turbulent political, economic and security news, it is essential to stay informed and to work for a more just, secure and prosperous Congolese society.. The pursuit of the investigation of crimes, the promotion of culture and education, as well as the consolidation of the rule of law are all challenges that the country must face to move towards a better future
