The day after his meeting with the Director General of the Roads Office, the Governor of South Kivu, Théo NGWABIDJE KASI, held a meeting this Thursday with the Minister of State, Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works, His Excellency Alexis GISARO Muvunyi. The discussion mainly focused on the issue of road infrastructure in the province of South Kivu.
This meeting between the two personalities comes just a few days before the resumption of modernization work on the RN5, on a section of PKO Place de l’Indépendance up to KAMANYOLA. Of the 55 km planned, only 15 km have already been rehabilitated up to NYANTENDE. The Governor of South Kivu has obtained the assurance of Minister GISARO that this work will begin next week.
For the Governor, the objective is to see this road rehabilitated up to FIZI, in order to open up this region and allow the inhabitants to carry out commercial exchanges between the provinces of South Kivu, Maniema and Tanganyika.
The Governor of South Kivu also informed the Minister of the current state of some national roads, such as BUKAVU-GOMA, BUKAVU-MWENGA, MITI-HOMBO-BUNYAKIRI, the road connecting BUKAVU-BURHALE SHABUNDA, as well as that between IDJWI NORTH and IDJWI SOUTH. These roads require complete rehabilitation, as the works carried out until then were temporary.
Minister Alexis GISARO MUVUNYI, originally from South Kivu, listened attentively to the Governor and promised to get involved in finding solutions adapted to these problems directly under his ministry. He also assured that he would plead with other partners of the Congolese government to solve the other problems.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works announced the upcoming rehabilitation of 90 km of the RN3, on the MITI-HOMBO-BUNYAKIRI section, by the company N.G.E, which is currently in the preparation phase before the start of the works. Governor Théo NGWABIDJE KASI said he was satisfied with this news and expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic, Félix Antoine TSHISEKEDI TSHILOMBO, for his determination to provide the DRC with modern road infrastructure.
The development of road infrastructure in the province of South Kivu is essential to promote trade and open up remote regions. The rehabilitation of the roads will facilitate the movement of people and goods, thus contributing to the economic development of the region. The support of the Congolese government and partners is crucial to carry out these projects and improve the lives of the people of South Kivu
