Political assassination in the DRC: Moïse Katumbi’s demand for justice

The assassination of national deputy Cheribun Okende in the Democratic Republic of Congo has aroused the indignation and anger of the president of the Ensemble, Moïse Katumbi. Describing this act as “political”, Katumbi interrupted his stay in Côte d’Ivoire to return immediately to the country and demand the truth about the circumstances and the perpetrators of this assassination.

In an interview with Radio France Internationale, Moïse Katumbi expresses his deep sorrow at the loss of his collaborator and friend, describing this act as a “political massacre”. He denounces the situation of growing insecurity in the country, where his advisers and partners are victims of arbitrary arrests and violence. He also affirms his determination to carry out an independent investigation to shed light on this affair, no longer trusting the country’s institutions.

Cheribun Okende was an honest and peaceful man, according to Moïse Katumbi. His death will not go unpunished, he says, promising to do everything possible to see justice done. Calls for justice and an end to impunity are growing in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the safety of civilians remains a major concern.

The assassination of Cheribun Okende is a reminder of the security challenges facing the country. ADF rebels continue to sow terror in the Beni region, kidnappings and road harassment persist in Kinshasa, and the authorities must take firm measures to ensure the protection of citizens.

In this context, the new police chief in Kinshasa has a crucial role to play in the fight against violence, kidnappings and juvenile delinquency. The safety of citizens must be an absolute priority. The Congolese population demands concrete and effective action to put an end to the growing insecurity.

The assassination of Cheribun Okende represents yet another urgent call for increased political accountability. Political leaders must take responsibility for ending violence and impunity. Justice must be rendered to the victims, and concrete measures must be taken to guarantee the safety of all citizens.

In this dark period, Moïse Katumbi’s demand for justice is a strong signal. It is essential that surveys are carried out in an independent and transparent manner, in order to prevent manipulation and to guarantee the credibility of the results. Only genuine justice can restore confidence and stability in the country.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is going through a critical period, where security and stability are seriously threatened. Political assassinations must not go unpunished, and the fight against impunity must be a top priority. The voice of truth cannot be silenced, and those responsible for these acts of violence must be held accountable for their actions.

As the country seeks to move towards a better future, it is imperative to end political violence, promote justice and protect the rights of all citizens
