Mwangachuchu case: new questions on the nationality of the Congolese deputy

The new hearing convened this Friday, July 14 at the High Military Court of Ndolo, in the case of MP Edouard Mwangachuchu, raises new questions about the nationality of the defendant. Mwangachuchu’s lawyers disputed the results of a covid test carried out in Rwanda, which identified him as being of Rwandan nationality. According to them, this computer error results from the observation of his face and his mastery of Kinyarwanda, while the test was carried out by computers configured in Kinyarwanda, the official language of Rwanda.

The deputy’s lawyers raised the issue of the consistency of the documents, pointing out the internal contradictions between the various exhibits presented. They also recalled that the High Military Court was judging Mwangachuchu as a Congolese national deputy and not in dispute over nationality.

The Mwangachuchu case is linked to accusations of links with M23 rebels, as well as the discovery of weapons of war in his residence in Kinshasa and in the premises of his company in Masisi, in the province of North Kivu. . The charges against him and his co-defendant include treason, participation in an insurrectionary movement, espionage and illegal possession of weapons of war.

The hearing scheduled for this Friday will deepen the debate on the covid test and its contradictory results as to the nationality of the defendant. However, it is important to point out that this case highlights broader issues, such as political stability and security in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
