Commemoration event: Genocost, to never forget the Congolese genocide
August 2, 2023 will mark an important commemoration event to raise global awareness of the Congolese Genocide and its profound consequences in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Genocost, organized by the CAYP association, invites people from all over the world to come together for reflection, education and solidarity.
This year, the chosen theme is “The Cost of Genocide”, highlighting the devastating consequences suffered by the Congolese people. It is a solemn reminder of the lives lost, the communities shattered and the lingering trauma survivors face. Genocost aims to promote understanding and inspire action for a better future for the Congolese people.
The event will be streamed online throughout the day, allowing anyone who wishes to participate, wherever they are. Physical gatherings will also take place in Paris, Goma and Kinshasa, offering participants the opportunity to come together and take part in various commemorative activities.
The highlight of Genocost will be an exclusive live interview, featuring three mining industry experts in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Their extensive experience and knowledge will highlight the far-reaching effects of genocide, especially in the context of the mining sector.
In Paris, the physical gathering will be held at 10, rue des terres au curé, providing a space to honor the victims and support the survivors. In Kinshasa, a side event will take place, providing an opportunity for reflection and solidarity at the heart of the affected community.
Genocost invites anyone who wishes to join the movement, whether by participating physically or online. Using the hashtags #Genocost #Genocost10 #Genocost2023 and #NeverForget, everyone is encouraged to share their thoughts, stories and support.
The Congolese genocide must never be forgotten. Genocost is an opportunity to honor the victims, raise awareness and work together to prevent such atrocities in the future.
