Genocost 2023: Commemoration and awareness for the Congolese genocide

August 2, 2023 will mark a commemoration event dedicated to raising awareness about the Congolese Genocide and its profound impact in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Genocost, an international movement, invites people around the world to join them for a day of reflection, education and solidarity.

Under the theme “The Cost of Genocide”, Genocost will highlight the devastating consequences suffered by the Congolese people. It will be a reminder of the economic shortfall, lives lost, communities shattered and the lingering trauma survivors face. Genocost’s goal is to foster understanding and inspire action to create a better future for the Congolese people.

The event will take place online throughout the day, with physical gatherings in Paris, Goma and Kinshasa. Participants will have the opportunity to connect and participate in various activities to honor victims and support survivors.

At the center of the event will be an exclusive live interview featuring three mining industry experts in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Their in-depth knowledge and experiences will shed light on the far-reaching effects of genocide, particularly in the context of the mining sector.

For those attending in Paris, the physical gathering will be held at 10, rue des terres au curé, 75013. In Kinshasa, a side event will take place, providing a space for reflection and solidarity at the heart of the affected community. .
