Assassination of Chérubin Okende in the DRC: Belgium ready to cooperate in the investigation

The murder of national deputy and honorary minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Chérubin Okende, continues to shake the country. In a gesture of solidarity, the Kingdom of Belgium has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the Congolese authorities in the investigation of this heinous crime. This was announced by the spokesman for the Congolese government, Patrick Muyaya, during a meeting of the Council of Ministers.

The Minister of State, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals has been instructed to contact the Belgian authorities, following the availability expressed by the Belgian Prime Minister. This desire for cooperation testifies to the importance given to the resolution of this affair and to the solidarity between the two nations.

In addition, the report of the South African experts on the survey was presented during this meeting. President Félix Tshisekedi expressed his disapproval and condemnation of this heinous crime, stressing that every act of violence against the country’s symbols, such as peace and security, is an attack on all Congolese citizens.

President Tshisekedi called for justice to shed light on this case and for those responsible to be brought to justice. He affirmed that this crime will not go unpunished and reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law.

Remember that Chérubin Okende was found dead on Thursday July 13, and the first elements of the investigation seem to confirm the trail of a heinous crime. A suspect has already been arrested, who is said to be close to the victim. A weapon was found in the deputy’s vehicle, reinforcing the suspicion of murder.

The entire Congolese population is now waiting for justice to do its job and for the light to be shed on this affair. International cooperation, particularly with Belgium and South Africa, is a significant step in this direction and shows the determination of the authorities to bring those responsible for this heinous act to justice. Congolese society aspires to security, justice and peace, and relies on the rule of law to achieve these goals
