The fight to lower the REGIDESO bill continues in Tshikapa, in the province of Kasai, where activists from the citizen movement LUCHA (Fight for Change) organized a new demonstration on Thursday, July 13. Unfortunately, their peaceful action was repressed by the police, resulting in the violent arrest of ten of their comrades.
According to Joël Minga, a LUCHA activist, the objective of this demonstration was to make the demands of the population heard, who suffer not only from the scarcity of water in certain communes of Tshikapa, but also from the high cost of the water bill. of REGIDESO. The population is indeed complaining about the recent doubling of the bill, which is undermining the household budget.
The repression of this demonstration and the arrest of the activists provoked the indignation of LUCHA, which demanded their immediate release. The citizen movement also denounces the attacks on public freedoms orchestrated by the mayor of the city, accused of being unable to guarantee security in Tshikapa.
This situation highlights the difficulties faced by many Congolese households. The increase in REGIDESO tariffs makes access to water more and more difficult, thus compromising the living conditions of the population. It is essential that measures be taken to remedy this situation, ensure access to drinking water at an affordable price and guarantee respect for the rights and freedoms of citizens.
Beyond the question of REGIDESO, this event also highlights the social and civic struggles taking place in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Movements such as LUCHA play a crucial role in defending the rights and interests of citizens and contributing to the fight for positive change in the country.
It is essential that these voices be heard and supported, in order to create an environment conducive to improving the living conditions of the Congolese population
