Desolation and sadness invaded the family of national deputy and former transport minister, Chérubin Okende, following his tragic assassination. A wave of grief fell on his relatives, gathered in Kinshasa, in the commune of Ngaliema, in the Joli Parc district.
The home of the illustrious disappeared is invaded by a crying crowd, made up of members of his family and agents of the Ministry of Transport who have come to join them. Testimonies moved and tears mingle, expressing incomprehension in the face of this loss. Chérubin Okende was a good man, respected by all, and his sudden departure leaves a huge void.
The pain is so intense that it seems insurmountable, a gaping wound difficult to close. The family members are inconsolable and express their dismay at this tragedy. The words of their complaints resonate, their demand for justice rises: why was Chérubin Okende killed in this way? The thieves who plunder the land still run free, while Cherubim is cruelly torn from them.
Chérubin Okende was kidnapped by armed men and found dead in his car. His body was discovered in front of the Kinshasa garage. This new tragedy comes on top of a climate of terror that reigns in the capital and in some cities of the country as the elections approach. Several opponents are under arrest, raising serious concerns about democracy and the country’s security.
Faced with this assassination, Jonas Tshiombela, coordinator of the New Congolese Civil Society (NSCC), asks the government to shed full light on this affair. He also calls for the establishment of a commission of inquiry composed of representatives of civil society and the political family of Chérubin Okende, in order to guarantee a transparent and impartial investigation.
The tragic disappearance of Chérubin Okende is a stark reminder of the political violence raging in the country and the urgency of protecting the rights and safety of citizens. Congolese society is in mourning, but it will continue to fight for justice and peace, hoping that such acts of violence will not happen again in the future.
