Agricultural training for young people in the DRC: a step towards agricultural transformation
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continues its efforts to promote agricultural transformation in the country. With this in mind, fifteen young people from the agricultural brigade, from the provinces of Kinshasa, Kasai-Oriental and the Ruzizi Valley, have recently benefited from training and strategic orientation in various agricultural fields. This initiative was organized by the African Institute of Agricultural Leadership (AALI) on the land of adaptation of the agro-industrial park of Karhongo-Nyangezi, in the territory of Walungu in South Kivu.
The objective of this training was to enable young people to appropriate the various agricultural techniques and technologies, particularly in the areas of agricultural education, modernized crop production, animal production and fish farming, as well as value addition and small-scale agricultural mechanization. Thanks to this training, the young people acquired new skills and knowledge in the use of technology in agricultural production, which will enable them to put these lessons into practice in their own areas of intervention.
This initiative is part of the Agenda de Transformation Agricole de la République Démocratique du Congo (ATA-DRC) project, which aims to accelerate the agricultural transformation of the country by increasing production, generating jobs and contributing to the reduction of food insecurity. Dr. Emmanuel Sanginga Nteranya, who supports President Félix Tshisekedi’s efforts to make agriculture a priority, stresses that political will and the involvement of young people are essential to achieve real agricultural transformation in the DRC.
This training of young agricultural brigades therefore demonstrates the commitment of the Congolese government and actors in the agricultural sector to invest in the training and orientation of young people in the field of agriculture. By equipping these young people with the necessary skills, the DRC hopes to strengthen its agriculture, create employment opportunities for young people and contribute to the country’s food security.
This initiative is commendable and should serve as an example to encourage other young people to get involved in the agricultural sector in the DRC. With its natural wealth and its promising agricultural potential, the country has many assets to develop modern and sustainable agriculture. It is therefore essential to continue to invest in the training, support and encouragement of young farmers in order to fully realize the agricultural potential of the DRC and contribute to its economic and social development
