“Agricultural training for young people: an essential lever for agricultural transformation in the DRC”

The training and orientation of young people in the agricultural field are essential to ensure the future of this sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is in this perspective that fifteen young people from different provinces participated in a capacity building and strategic orientation workshop, organized by the African Institute of Agricultural Leadership (AALI).

This workshop took place in the agro-industrial park of Karhongo-Nyangezi, in South Kivu. The young people were able to benefit from training in various agricultural fields, such as agricultural education, modernized crop production, animal production and fish farming, as well as the development of agricultural products and agricultural mechanization.

This initiative is part of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA-DRC) project, which aims to accelerate the country’s agricultural transformation. The young participants were thus able to immerse themselves in the model applied in South Kivu and will be able to disseminate it in their own areas of intervention.

The importance of youth involvement in this agricultural transformation was highlighted by Dr. Emmanuel Sanginga Nteranya, who commended President Félix Tshisekedi’s efforts to make agriculture a priority. Political will combined with the commitment of young people are the keys to a real agricultural revolution in the country.

The objective of this agricultural training is to increase agricultural production, generate jobs and contribute to reducing food insecurity in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Thanks to this training, the young people will be able to put into practice the agricultural techniques and technologies acquired, which will have a positive impact on the development of the agricultural sector in their respective regions.

By training and guiding young people, ATA-RDC hopes to create a new generation of competent and motivated farmers, able to meet the challenges of Congolese agriculture and contribute to its sustainable development.

This initiative is therefore a crucial step in the country’s agricultural transformation process. By investing in the training and orientation of young people, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has the opportunity to stimulate the growth of the agricultural sector and create job prospects for Congolese youth
