Electrification of the Catholic mission of Kilembe: access to energy for all in the DR Congo
In pursuit of its agenda to provide access to electricity for all, the National Agency for Electrification and Energy Services in Rural and Sub-urban Areas (ANSER) has recently taken a new step with the electrification of the Catholic mission of Kilembe, located in rural areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Thanks to the installation of a 62 kWp solar power plant, the Catholic mission of Kilembe now has access to electricity. This achievement is all the more significant as it coincides with the celebration of the centenary of this mission. Monsignor José Moko, Bishop of the Diocese of Idiofa, expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, for his commitment to providing access to electricity in rural areas.
This electrification represents a real turning point for the local population, who until now lived in darkness. The effects of this progress will be felt in all aspects of daily life: children will be able to study in better conditions, hospitals and maternity wards will benefit from a reliable source of energy, schools and administrative offices will have access to electricity, and street lighting will help improve security.
The Catholic mission of Kilembe was fortunate to benefit from this electrification due to its location along the national road, allowing easy access to the installation of the solar power plant. However, Monsignor José Moko stressed the importance of extending this type of project to other rural areas of the country. He appealed to the Congolese government to include this electrification action in the national budget and thus allow many Congolese to benefit from this progress.
ANSER, as the government agency responsible for the electrification of deep Congo, plays a crucial role in the application of the electricity law, the encouragement of investments in the electric power sector and the development of energy services in rural and peri-urban areas. The electrification of the Catholic mission of Kilembe is a concrete example of ANSER’s commitment to providing access to electricity for all, thus contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.
In conclusion, the electrification of the Catholic mission of Kilembe marks an important step in the achievement of the agenda of access to electricity for all in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Thanks to this breakthrough, the local population will be able to benefit from the advantages of electricity in different areas of daily life.. However, it is essential to continue these efforts and expand electrification to other rural areas of the country to ensure equitable access to energy for all Congolese
