Terrorist occupation in Bukombo-center: the population in danger in North Kivu

The village of Bukombo-centre, located in the province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is currently under occupation by terrorists of the March 23 Movement (M23) supported by the Rwandan Armed Forces (RDF). This sad news was announced by Radio Okapi on Tuesday July 11.

According to local sources, fighting broke out between the M23 and local armed groups in the Bwito region, more specifically in Bukombo. The inhabitants of the region are in the grip of terror and a large part of the population has had to take refuge in nearby villages such as Nyanzale, Katsiru and Mashango.

Information indicates that the M23 launched their attack converging from several directions. Some groups came from Mulimbi, passing through Kashavu, while others arrived from Shonyi, Kavumu, Bishusha and Kizimba to attack Bukombo-centre. This situation highlights the coordination and determination of the rebels to take control of the region.

It is important to emphasize that the population had already alerted the authorities to the reinforcement of insurgent positions in the region, thus announcing an imminent attack. Unfortunately, calls for help have been ignored and people are now trapped in this violence.

The consequences of this terrorist occupation are felt not only in Bukombo-center, but also in neighboring territories. Sources report that terrorists are strengthening their positions in localities such as Bishusha, Sanseti and Shangi, near Kirolirwe. They even use some inhabitants of Bwiza to transport their belongings, thus spreading terror throughout the region.

This alarming situation highlights the security challenges that the Democratic Republic of Congo is facing in this part of the country. Quick and effective action is needed to end the terrorist occupation and restore security and peace in the Bukombo-centre region.

It is therefore essential that the competent authorities take concrete measures to protect the civilian population and eradicate these terrorist groups. Cooperation with neighboring countries, such as Rwanda, is also essential to prevent support for insurgents.

In conclusion, the situation in Bukombo-centre is worrying and requires immediate action. Local people deserve to be protected and to live safely in their community. It is time for all stakeholders to unite their efforts to end this terrorist occupation and restore peace in the region
