Terrorist occupation in Bukombo-center: the population in danger in North Kivu
The locality of Bukombo-centre is currently under occupation by terrorists of the March 23 Movement (M23) supported by the Rwandan Armed Forces (RDF), according to information reported by Radio Okapi. This alarming situation is taking place in the capital of the group of the same name, located in the territory of Rutshuru, province of North Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
M23 terrorists succeeded in taking control of Bukombo-centre after fighting local armed groups in the Bwito region, more specifically in Bukombo. Local sources affirm that this occupation has pushed a large part of the population to take refuge in the nearby localities of Nyanzale, Katsiru and Mashango. The M23 allegedly launched their attacks from different directions, notably from Mulimbi, Kashavu, Shonyi, Kavumu, Bishusha and Kizimba.
It is important to underline that the population of Bukombo had already warned the local authorities of the growing presence of the rebels in the area, suggesting an imminent attack. Unfortunately, the suffering endured by the population of Bwito has become a reality, with this occupation by the M23 taking advantage of the ceasefire observed by the army to regain control of the areas previously occupied.
The dramatic consequences of this occupation are also being felt in the neighboring territory of Masisi, where sources report the strengthening of the positions of M23 terrorists in Bishusha, Sanseti and Shangi, near Kirolirwe. It would even seem that the insurgents used local inhabitants to transport their belongings.
Faced with this worrying situation, it is imperative that the competent authorities and the international community redouble their efforts to protect the civilian population and restore peace in the region. Resolute action is needed to put an end to these terrorist actions and ensure the safety of the inhabitants of Bukombo and the surrounding territories.
It is therefore crucial to closely monitor the evolution of this terrorist occupation in Bukombo-centre and to mobilize all the means necessary to deal with this threat and guarantee the safety of civilians
