Misappropriation of donations intended for the victims of Bushushu and Nyamukubi: the Civil Society of Kalehe denounces

In a letter addressed to the Governor of the province of South Kivu, the President of the Civil Society of Kalehe, Martin Ngonyizi, denounces the mismanagement of donations intended for the victims of Bushushu and Nyamukubi. It highlights the misappropriation of certain donations from the national government as well as those from organizations by well-identified individuals.

The Civil Society of Kalehe asks the judicial and administrative authorities to intervene in order to severely punish those responsible for these reprehensible acts.

It also demands explanations as to the use of the funds, in particular the 2,500,000 FC intended for 200 families affected by Kalehe. According to the President of the Civil Society of Kalehe, part of the food and non-food items, as well as coffins, were diverted by the Head of the Humanitarian and Social Actions Department of the territory of Kalehe. In addition, a pharmacist from the Kalehe Health Zone allegedly diverted a quantity of drugs, which was admitted during an arrest by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The involvement of Mr. Musafiri in the embezzlement of more than 110 tokens is also highlighted.

The Civil Society of Kalehe deplores the fact that the alleged perpetrators circulate freely without being worried by the local authorities. She therefore calls for strict disciplinary measures to preserve the image and restore the authority of the State.

In addition to the sanctions, the Civil Society of Kalehe also requests the definitive exclusion of any State agent involved in the misappropriation of donations intended for the victims.

Faced with the inaction of the authorities, the Civil Society of Kalehe plans to undertake large-scale actions to make its voice heard and obtain justice.

It should be remembered that the victims of Bushushu and Nyamukubi have been hard hit by bad weather and are living in alarmingly poor conditions. It is essential that the donations intended to help them are used transparently and effectively to improve their situation. It is time that those responsible for this embezzlement are brought to justice and that measures are taken to prevent such acts in the future
