“The motorized caravan in Kinshasa: an initiative to promote female entrepreneurship and the rights of women and girls in the DRC!”

The motorized caravan organized by CAFCO in partnership with UN Women in Kinshasa has generated growing interest. This initiative to raise awareness about women’s entrepreneurship and the rights of women and girls has attracted the attention of many people.

According to Honorine Bokashanga, member of CAFCO, it is important to go beyond the office and carry out actions on the ground to reach a wider audience. Awareness-raising focused on favorable laws for female entrepreneurship, encouraging women to formalize their business activities. Essential information was also disseminated: women have the right to set up a business or exercise trade even when they are married, because marital authorization has been replaced by simple information, in accordance with the family code.

The caravan traveled through different districts of Kinshasa, passing through the Place des Evolués, the Bayaka market, the Boulevard du 30 juin, Kintambo-Magasin, Barré DGC and Delvaux. This presence on the ground made it possible to capture the attention of passers-by and to disseminate key messages in a more impactful way.

Mimie Angèle Khonde, another member of CAFCO, underlined the importance of this awareness, especially for women who carry out small informal businesses. She encouraged them to register with the one-stop shop for business creation, stressing that women have an important role to play in the country’s economic development.

It should be noted that this pilot project, carried out in partnership with UN Women, ran from mid-2022 to mid-2023. The goal is to promote female entrepreneurship and strengthen the rights of women and girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This initiative, which is part of a broader context of promoting gender equality, the economic empowerment of women and the fight against discrimination, is helping to open up new prospects for Congolese women.

We must salute the efforts of CAFCO and its partners to raise public awareness of these crucial issues. By encouraging women to engage in entrepreneurship and defending their rights, this initiative helps strengthen the position of women in Congolese society and promote the country’s economic development.

It is essential to multiply these awareness-raising actions to reach a greater number of women and girls, in order to enable them to realize their full potential and actively contribute to the development of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Thanks to initiatives such as this motorized caravan, we can hope for a better future for Congolese women
