“Motorcycle taxi drivers in the DRC are calling for measures to facilitate their administrative and tax procedures”

Drivers of motorcycle taxis, commonly called “wewas”, are faced with numerous administrative hassles that hinder their activity. This situation has caused widespread dissatisfaction among these professionals, who are calling for measures to facilitate their tax procedures.

Papy Muluba, president of the “wewas”, expressed his frustration with this red tape in a statement to the press. According to him, every day, motorcycle taxi drivers are disrupted and confronted with multiple state departments such as the General Directorate of Revenue, Transport Department, Parking Department, etc. These recurring obstacles hinder their progress and prevent them from exercising their activity serenely.

The “wewas” are so unhappy with this situation that they have considered organizing a protest march. However, Papy Muluba asked his peers to be patient and to seek to challenge the politico-administrative authorities to find a solution to their problems.

He also pointed out that motorbike taxi drivers regularly pay various taxes but receive no support from the authorities. This discouraging situation raises questions about the use of funds from these taxes.

“We are discouraged by this situation. Where does the money that we pay in regular taxes go? It is high time for the situation to change”, concluded the president of “wewas”.

This situation highlights the challenges faced by motorcycle taxi drivers in the DRC. Their request for the simplification of administrative procedures and for their concerns to be taken into account calls for genuine reflection on the part of the political and administrative authorities to guarantee an environment favorable to their activity.

In the meantime, the “wewas” hope that their voice will be heard and that measures will be taken to solve the problems they face on a daily basis. The motorcycle taxi sector plays an important role in urban mobility and job creation in the DRC, so it is essential to provide concrete solutions to support their activity.
