“Training on the management of human trafficking cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo: a crucial step in the fight against this scourge”

Welcome to our news blog! Today we are going to talk about an important event that took place in the province of Kwilu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Coordination in charge of youth, fight against gender-based violence (GBV) and human trafficking, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and with the financial support of USAID, organized a training workshop on human trafficking case management.

This three-day workshop aimed to build the capacities of front-line actors involved in caring for victims of human trafficking. It is aimed at professionals such as social workers, present in the provinces of Kinshasa, Haut-Katanga and Kwilu.

The training familiarized participants with the general context of human trafficking, its principles, techniques and case management tools. They have also acquired the skills necessary to transmit this knowledge to their colleagues, their networks and their respective sectors.

The holding of this workshop is justified by the results of a joint study carried out by the ILO and the IOM, revealing that more than 50 million people in the world are victims of human trafficking. These victims are forced into forced labor, sexual exploitation, domestic servitude, organ trafficking, forced begging, debt bondage, forced recruitment into armed groups, and many more. other forms of abuse.

The workshop organizers emphasize the importance of building institutional skills and expertise in many countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo. Ely Thelot, IOM Technical Adviser, said this training was essential for social workers in Kwilu province, following the many cases of human trafficking identified in the region. It will enable professionals to support and take care of victims of trafficking more effectively.

Henri Pami Mayala, member of the Youth Coordination, fight against GBV and human trafficking, said that the Presidency of the Republic, through Mrs. Chantal Mulop, organized these trainings in order to allow social workers to identify cases of human trafficking and how to act in the face of this scourge which is rampant in the province of Kwilu.

This training workshop on human trafficking case management marks an important step in the fight against this heinous crime. It shows the commitment of Congolese authorities and their international partners to combat human trafficking and protect victims. We hope that these trainings will make it possible to strengthen the systems for preventing, detecting and caring for victims of human trafficking in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
