The political ping-pong game in the DRC: Félix Tshisekedi expresses his regret over the break with Kabila

The political ping-pong game between the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, and his predecessor Joseph Kabila continues to make headlines. The breakdown of the FCC-CACH coalition is at the heart of their disagreements, with each blaming the other.

In a recent television interview, Felix Tshisekedi expressed his regret at the failure of the FCC-CACH coalition, saying he had invested a lot of hope in this alliance. He now believes in peaceful change for the Congo, based on national solidarity and the alliance of opposition forces to bring about positive change.

The Head of State also deplored the interference in the political management of the country, stressing that the idea of a peaceful cohabitation between him and Joseph Kabila did not work as expected. He expresses his greatest regret at the end of this great experience.

In reaction, Joseph Kabila rejected the accusations of Felix Tshisekedi, saying that the latter did not respect his commitments towards the progress of the FCC-CACH coalition.

It is important to remember that the FCC-CACH coalition broke up in December 2021, following a speech by President Tshisekedi to the nation. This break led to a reclassification of the parliamentary majority and the formation of a new political platform called the “Sacred Union of the Nation”, which supports President Tshisekedi.

This political situation in the DRC continues to evolve in a complex way, with major political stakes. It remains to be seen how the political actors will manage to overcome their differences and work together for the good of the country
