The leader of the Envol political party recently held a rally in Bandundu, where he reiterated the opposition’s recommendations for the smooth running of the electoral process underway in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The main point raised during this meeting is the demand for representation of the opposition within the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). Indeed, the opposition believes that the current CENI is composed solely of members of the majority and therefore calls for a balanced representation. Moreover, the political leader insists on the importance of the publication of the results of the elections polling station by polling station, in order to guarantee the transparency of the process.
It is also requested that the Constitutional Court be recomposed before the elections are held, in order to ensure impartiality in the handling of electoral disputes.
National Deputy Delly Sesanga also expressed concerns about insecurity in some parts of the country, particularly in eastern DRC.
The electoral process in the DRC continues despite the differences between the various stakeholders, particularly with regard to the reliability of the electoral register. Consultations are underway between the CENI and the various political actors in order to find common ground and guarantee credible and transparent elections.
The participation of former President Joseph Kabila in these consultations is also envisaged.
It is therefore essential that the population remain vigilant and actively participate in the electoral process in order to guarantee free and democratic elections in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
