The persistent instability in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to raise questions and accusations. During a joint press conference with the South African president on an official visit to Kinshasa, Felix Tshisekedi pointed the finger at Rwanda as being at the root of this situation. According to the Congolese president, Rwanda has always lied about its role in the aggression of the DRC, despite the undeniable evidence.

“It is a lie that Rwanda continues to deny its aggression of the DRC. They have always presented the situation as an internal problem and claimed that the members of M23 were Congolese rebels against their country. It is not true, and everyone knows it,” said Félix Tshisekedi.

The Congolese president, however, does not close the door to the possibility of negotiating with Rwanda to resolve this issue. However, he points out that the current situation does not allow for discussions between the two countries.

“Given the current situation, it is difficult to discuss with a country that sends armed groups to the negotiating table with a legitimate and globally recognized government,” he laments.

Felix Tshisekedi also voiced criticism of the East African regional force, while emphasizing that he does not totally reject it. According to him, this force did not respect the agreements and the peace treaties by allowing, in particular, collusion with the members of the M23. New arrangements have been agreed with the leaders of the countries concerned to resolve this situation by September.

It is essential that the countries of the region work together to guarantee stability and security in eastern DRC. Transparent discussions and negotiations respectful of international agreements are necessary to resolve tensions and end the instability prevailing in the region
