Title: Clashes between supporters of the UDPS and UNAFEC in Lubumbashi: the call for accountability from the Minister of the Interior
Introduction :
Recent clashes between activists from the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) and the Union of Nationals and Federalists (UNAFEC) in Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, have sparked strong concerns. In an already tense political context, this violence unfortunately led to the loss of human lives. Faced with this worrying situation, Éric Muta Ndala, provincial Minister of the Interior and Security, launched an urgent appeal to the leaders of the two political parties to assume their responsibilities and avoid any escalation of violence.
Call to responsibility:
In an exclusive interview with ACTUALITE.CD, Minister Muta Ndala stressed the importance of the responsibility of political leaders in the resolution of these conflicts. He recalled that UDPS and UNAFEC are both parties supporting President Félix Tshisekedi and therefore have a common interest in working together. He expressed his deep disappointment at the fact that these parties, won over to the cause of the Head of State, let themselves be manipulated to the point of causing the loss of human lives. He thus called on the various stakeholders to put aside their differences and focus on the election of their moral authority, President Tshisekedi.
Meetings and consultations:
The Minister of the Interior also reported on the meetings and consultation efforts put in place to promote peaceful cohabitation between the political parties. He stressed that these meetings have multiplied with the aim of finding solutions and preventing new clashes. He further insisted that such situations should not happen again in the future.

Muta Ndala specified that repressive measures were taken against the individuals involved in the clashes. Arrests have been made and investigations are continuing to determine the responsibilities of each. The minister underlined that any individual involved, whether a member of UNAFEC or UDPS, will have to answer for their actions in accordance with the law. He hopes to make these arrests deterrent examples to avoid future violent incidents.
