In the aftermath of the tragic incidents that occurred between young people from the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) and the National Union of Federalists of Congo (UNAFEC), the police of Haut-Katanga called on the population to dismantle the networks responsible for these troubles.

The facts took place in the Kilobelobe district of the annex commune, in the south-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. These incidents unfortunately resulted in the loss of two lives. Faced with this violence, the regional police station appealed to the population to cooperate with the security forces in order to put an end to these acts of disorder and incivility.

Major Charles Espéranto Bin Lwamba, spokesperson for the Haut-Katanga police, sent a video message to the population, urging them to calm down and to support the authorities in putting an end to this violence. He also announced the opening of investigations in order to establish the responsibilities in these tragic events.

Tensions between UDPS and UNAFEC youth were linked to the collection and management of an illegal tax that is not recognized by local authorities. These recent clashes have highlighted the security and public order problems caused by the activism of these two political parties in the Katanga region, both of which support President Félix Tshisekedi within the Union Sacrée de la Nation. .

The Haut-Katanga police station also called on the leaders of the UDPS and UNAFEC to sensitize their members to respect for the law and to promote the culture of peace and good citizenship. In particular, he underlines the importance of this in this crucial election year.

Faced with these tragic incidents, it is essential that the population collaborates with the security forces to dismantle the networks that sow chaos and insecurity. The peace and stability of the Katanga region must be preserved for the well-being of all citizens. We hope that these investigations will identify the culprits and put an end to these acts of violence. Respect for the law and the establishment of a culture of peace are essential values for the development and prosperity of the Democratic Republic of Congo
