The Games of La Francophonie are about to start in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, but some countries have decided to withdraw at the last minute. Isidore Kwandja, director of the national committee for these Games, expressed his surprise at this decision. According to him, all the concerns of the participating countries, such as security, health and infrastructure, have been taken into account by the Congolese government.
Thus, despite the assurances given, some countries chose not to send their delegation. Quebec, for example, withdrew its participation while New Brunswick confirmed its participation. Isidore Kwandja also underlined the confirmed participation of Switzerland, Wallonia and France.
This situation shows that each State is sovereign in its decision to participate or not in the Games of La Francophonie. However, the surprise remains present, in particular when delegations visited Kinshasa and expressed their concerns to which responses were provided.
Despite these withdrawals, many other French-speaking countries and territories have confirmed their presence, which testifies to the importance of this event. The Games of La Francophonie offer the opportunity to celebrate the cultural and linguistic diversity of French-speaking countries, while promoting exchanges and sports competitions.
It is therefore with enthusiasm that Kinshasa is preparing to host this ninth edition of the Francophone Games, which will take place from July 28 to August 6. Despite the obstacles, the spirit of La Francophonie remains alive and it is important to support this international event which highlights the richness of the French language and promotes cooperation between French-speaking nations
