In the region of Mutuweyi, straddling the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a terrible massacre took place. Ugandan terrorists from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) group mercilessly attacked civilians, causing the death of thirteen people. Men and women lost their lives in this tragedy which occurred on Thursday, June 29, 2023.
The details of this attack have come to us thanks to the non-governmental organization Convention for the Respect of Human Rights. According to their sources, four women are among the victims of this act of barbaric violence. Christophe Munyanderu, head of the NGO-DH, condemned these assassinations and called on the army to prosecute those responsible, locating them in particular in the Bega, Apetineko and Inzilemba camps, located in the Irumu region.
This new killing is unfortunately part of a series of attacks perpetrated by the ADF. Their presence continues to sow terror and death in this region already hard hit by armed conflict. Civilians are the first victims of these acts of violence, and it is essential that measures are taken to protect the population and put an end to the impunity enjoyed by the perpetrators of these crimes.
These dramatic events remind us once again of the need to act to guarantee the security and protection of civilian populations. It is essential that the competent authorities step up their efforts to fight against these terrorist groups and put an end to the violence that is bloodying this region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
We express our deep sympathy for the families of the victims and our support for all those fighting for peace and security in this part of the world. It is essential that the international community mobilizes and provides its support to put an end to these atrocities and allow the populations to live in peace and security.
