“Kinshasa gets rid of traffic jams with the construction of a revolutionary cable car”

Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been facing a major problem for years: road congestion. Incessant traffic jams make travel difficult for the city’s inhabitants. Faced with this situation, the Congolese government has decided to implement an innovative solution: the construction of a cable car.

In partnership with the Turkish firm Milvest, the government officially signed a contract for the realization of this engineering project. The cable car will connect two strategic stations in Kinshasa: the University of Kinshasa in the commune of Lemba and the Triangle station in the commune of Mont-Ngafula. With a length of 2 kilometers, it will be able to carry daily up to 5000 passengers.

The main objective of this project is to relieve traffic congestion by providing an alternative to cable air transport. This solution will reduce traffic jams and improve the mobility of the citizens of Kinshasa. Construction work is expected to begin in July 2023 with the bulk of the project expected to be delivered by December 2023.

The installation of a cable car in Kinshasa is an innovative initiative which is part of a series of measures taken by the government to improve road traffic in the city. In fact, congestion is caused both by endogenous problems, such as non-compliance with the highway code and police harassment, as well as by exogenous problems linked to the state of the roads and the insufficiency of transport infrastructure.

The cable car project offers an alternative and sustainable solution to solve these mobility problems. In addition to relieving traffic congestion, it will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions related to car travel. In addition, it will provide a fast and convenient means of transport for the inhabitants of Kinshasa, allowing them to avoid traffic jams and save time in their daily journeys.

The construction of a cable car in Kinshasa is therefore an important step in improving the city’s transport infrastructure. This project will facilitate the mobility of residents and contribute to a better quality of life. It also testifies to the Congolese government’s desire to put in place innovative solutions to deal with the urban challenges facing Kinshasa. The cable car will undoubtedly be a true symbol of modernity and progress for the city
