Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been facing a major problem for years: road congestion. Incessant traffic jams make travel difficult for the city’s inhabitants. Faced with this situation, the Congolese government has decided to implement an innovative solution: the construction of a cable car.
In partnership with the Turkish firm Milvest, the government officially signed a contract for the realization of this engineering project. The cable car will connect two strategic stations in Kinshasa: the University of Kinshasa in the commune of Lemba and the Triangle station in the commune of Mont-Ngafula. With a length of 2 kilometers, it will be able to carry daily up to 5000 passengers.
The main objective of this project is to relieve traffic congestion by providing an alternative to cable air transport. Construction work is expected to begin in July 2023 with the bulk of the project expected to be delivered by December 2023.
