“Launch of the BRTCs for the legislative elections in the DRC: a race against time for the candidates”

Official launch of the BRTCs for candidacies in the legislative elections

This Monday, June 26, 171 offices for the reception and processing of candidatures (BRTC) for the legislative elections were opened in the various localities of the Democratic Republic of Congo. On the occasion, the president of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), Denis Kadima, went to the antennas in Kinshasa to see the state of progress of the activities.

Speaking to the press, Denis Kadima assured that the CENI is ready for the legislative elections, and invited potential candidates to present themselves in time. He stressed that any file meeting the conditions required by law will be accepted, in a process that the CENI wanted to be inclusive.

Candidates must submit more than seven forms to submit their file, and present themselves with a complete file and on time according to the president of the CENI. Thus, it is important for them to organize themselves to meet these requirements, because showing up late exposes the applications received to not being taken into account.

The launch of these offices marks the beginning of the electoral process which already promises to be tense in the DRC following disagreements on the modalities of the implementation of the electoral reform. All eyes are therefore on the electoral commission to guarantee a credible and inclusive process for the future legislative elections.

In short, we expect from the CENI a transparent and effective management of this electoral process which would consolidate democracy in the DRC.
