The Congolese Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya Katembwe, attended an international conference on gender-based violence in Kinshasa on June 20. Placed under the high patronage of President Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi, this meeting gave the government spokesperson the opportunity to recall the importance of communication in the fight against gender-based violence.
During his speech, Patrick Muyaya Katembwe stressed that communication was an important lever for raising awareness and advocacy on gender-based violence. He presented the second edition of the Henriette Eke Media Prize 2023, a competition open to all journalists who wish to produce quality articles on the subject.
Furthermore, the Minister also addressed the issue of positive masculinity, inviting men to take responsibility for their attitude and their word towards women. For Patrick Muyaya Katembwe, gender-based violence is not acceptable and the government is strongly committed to the fight against this phenomenon.
The Minister also recalled the importance of women in the development of the country, welcoming the leadership of Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi on the issue of gender equality. According to him, the work to deconstruct the perception of women must continue to be carried out on a daily basis.
In short, the international conference was a great opportunity for the Congolese government to reaffirm its commitment to the fight against gender-based violence and to recall the important role of communication in this fight.
