In the Walese-vonkutu chiefdom, in Irumu territory, civilians were killed by suspected Ugandan rebels of the Democratic and Allied Forces (ADF). The bodies of 8 civilians were discovered on Sunday 04 June, victims of terrorist attacks which occurred in the localities of Mutuweyi, Malanga and Bekembela, on Friday 02 June.
In response to this resurgence of insecurity in the region, the Convention for the Respect of Human Rights (CRDH) regrets the lightness with which the Congolese authorities are handling the ADF file. This structure warns of the installation of these fighters in the Irumu region near the neighboring province of North Kivu. These alleged Ugandan rebels terrorize the population by circulating in the fields of the inhabitants, where they commit crimes.
Faced with the situation, the CRDH asks the population to no longer frequent areas in insecurity and in particular their fields. Christophe Munyanderu, the head of the CRDH branch of the Irumu territory, is alarmed at the movement of the enemy from the east to the west of the rural commune of Oicha and in the forests of the chiefdom of Walese- vonkutu where the joint Fardc-Updf military operations take place.
It is urgent to take measures to guarantee the security of the populations in this region and to treat the ADF file with more rigor and determination on the part of the Congolese authorities.
