Title: Daniel Safu heard by the special and temporary commission of the National Assembly for incitement to tribal hatred
National deputy Daniel Safu, spokesperson for the political party Ensemble pour la République de Moïse Katumbi, appeared before the special and temporary commission of the National Assembly in charge of his hearing for incitement to tribal hatred, following his remarks made during a television program on CML13 on May 20.
In front of the members of the commission, the elected representative of the constituency of Mont-Amba claimed that he was not afraid of sanctions and recalled the words of the late Cardinal Malula: “it is better to be crucified than to crucify the truth” .
MP Scolastique Mahindo and MP Noël Botakile make up this special and temporary commission. Daniel Safu is assisted during this hearing by his fellow deputy Paulin Odiane.
These remarks provoked a wave of reactions and led to sanctions, including the suspension of the CML13 television channel on which the program was broadcast. Provincial deputy Mike Mukebayi, also present during this program, is currently detained in Makala prison pending the evolution of his instruction.
The situation has worsened in recent days in the DRC, with the escalation of political tension and the contestation of the elections by the majority. The opposition calls for action by the international community to improve the country’s economic and social situation, while the Congolese currency has seen a slight appreciation on the official market but a depreciation on the parallel market. The Beni region is also bereaved by a heinous crime against the backdrop of questions surrounding the assassination of Kakule Mbalikiriri.
Finally, Cardinal Tagle’s visit to the DRC is eagerly awaited to bring some peace and hope to a country plagued by conflict.
