North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo is in the grip of a war whose intensity has not diminished since the end of 2022. The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) oppose the rebels of the M23, supported by Rwanda. Rebel attacks are recorded, despite regional peace agreements.
The FARDC recently publicly denounced the “going to war” attitude of the Rwandan army and M23 auxiliaries in the region. The rebels are reinforced by new soldiers who have completed military training in Rwanda. These fighters go so far as to reoccupy their former positions, with the objective of attacking the city of Goma and accentuating the humanitarian crisis and insecurity.
Faced with this situation, the FARDC appeal to the international community to ensure that the terrorist movement respects the agreements and commitments signed. The mission of the EAC regional army remains critical, with the Kinshasa army accusing it of collaboration with the M23.
Beyond the political issues involved, this war is creating a considerable humanitarian crisis and harming the economic development of the region. It is important that stability returns so that human rights are respected and economic development can continue
