“Electoral crisis in the DRC: FCC deputies refuse to participate in the examination of the electoral bill, denouncing a fraudulent and chaotic process”.

The electoral crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continues with the refusal of the deputies who are members of the Common Front for Congo (FCC) to take part in the examination of the draft electoral law relating to the distribution of seats with a view to the next legislative, provincial, municipal and local elections.

They believe that the electoral process is already biased and corrupt, and that it will have incalculable consequences for the country. They refuse to support the regime of Felix Tshisekedi in this already disputed electoral process.

In a statement read before the National Assembly, elected officials close to former President Joseph Kabila denounce a “fraudulent” and “chaotic” electoral process. They demand the establishment of a consensual Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), as well as an inclusive electoral law.

In response, the government adopted at the last meeting of the Council of Ministers a draft law on the distribution of seats. The text renewed the seats for the territories of Masisi and Rutshuru as provided for in past elections.

The refusal of the FCC deputies to participate in the examination of the draft electoral law shows once again the political differences and the tensions that still exist in the DRC.

In this context, civil society and other political actors continue to denounce the unreliability of the electoral process, which presages chaotic and fraudulent elections in the country.

Faced with this situation, it is essential for all stakeholders to work together in order to organize credible and transparent elections, which will allow the Congolese people to choose their leaders in a democratic way.
