“The Prime Minister of the DRC insists on the need to table the draft electoral law in parliament to ensure the stability and security of the country”

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Prime Minister, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge, recently praised the work carried out by the Independent National Electoral Commission in the context of legislative, provincial, municipal and local elections. He also reminded the government that it was necessary to table the draft law on the distribution of seats by electoral constituency proposed by this commission in parliament as soon as possible.

This bill was drawn up after months of identification and voter registration operations, which saw the removal of more than 3 million people from the initial electoral register. However, the experts commissioned by the CENI declared this electoral register now “reliable” with its 43,955,181 registered voters.

The adoption of this bill will allow the continuation of the 2023-2024 electoral calendar, marked by key operations such as the operation of receiving and processing applications for direct ballots, the organization of direct and indirect ballots, the election of governors as well as that of senators.

In a tense political context marked by precautionary measures taken against CML13TV and tragic road accidents such as that of Mbanza Ngungu which killed ten people, security in the east of the country is a major concern for the government. It is in this context that the Prime Minister led a security mission to Goma to assess the situation and recommend measures.

The fight against the measles epidemic and the protection of children is also at the heart of the news, with the vaccination campaign launched by the head doctor of the Nyangezi zone in South Kivu.

Furthermore, there is growing pressure from the international community to end the tyranny in the country, with figures such as Moïse Katumbi calling for change.

Overall, the situation in the DRC is complex and volatile, but the government continues to work to resolve current challenges and crises to ensure stability and security in the country.
