“Democratic Republic of Congo: the violent repression of the opposition march sparks international outrage and highlights the fragility of the political situation”

The political situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is currently tense, following the violent repression of the opposition march held on May 20 in Kinshasa. The images of this repression shocked and aroused the indignation of many observers.

The political party Nouvel Elan, led by former Prime Minister Adolphe Muzito, condemned this repression and demanded the opening of an independent investigation to shed light on this violence and establish responsibility. According to the party, this investigation should also extend to the nature and members of the militia armed with machetes observed in the eastern part of the city of Kinshasa.

Nouvel Elan also called on the power in place to guarantee freedom of assembly and assembly. Many people, demonstrators and police, were injured during this peaceful march organized by a fringe of the opposition.

At the same time, the DRC has taken a crucial step towards transnational connectivity with the launch of Africa Congo Internet Exchange and a collaboration agreement to connect two continents through a fiber optic network between Kinshasa and Brazzaville. This progress testifies to the DRC’s desire to modernize and connect more to the rest of the world.

However, the recent violence and repression of the opposition march are a reminder of the fragility of the political situation in the DRC. Analysts fear that the situation will deteriorate in the coming months if tensions are not defused.

Images of the repression of the opposition march in Kinshasa were widely disseminated on the internet and social networks, sparking a wave of indignation from the international community. The Nobel Peace Prize Denis Mukwege also condemned this violence and denounced “dictatorial acts”.

In this tense context, accusations of treason also hang over Edouard Mwangachuchu, suspected of false papers and collusion with Rwanda. The political situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo therefore remains very unstable and requires constant attention from the international community.
