The High Military Court is pursuing the treason case against Édouard Mwangachuchu. During the hearing, the public prosecutor presented documents calling into question the nationality and the country of residence of the national deputy. According to a Covid test carried out at the Rwanda biomedical center, the deputy presented himself as a Rwandan subject, which he formally denies.
If Mwangachuchu admits having carried out the test to be able to travel, he refutes any link with the Rwandan nationality or the possession of a passport of the country. He himself claims to have used only Congolese passports and invites anyone to prove the contrary.
The national deputy is prosecuted for possession of weapons and is suspected of being in cahoots with Rwanda to attack the Democratic Republic of Congo. On April 27, the Constitutional Court declared admissible but unfounded the motion of unconstitutionality raised by Mwangachuchu.
The treason affair continues to fuel debates in the DRC, joined by other topical issues such as the Kalehe disaster, rising sexual violence, and political tensions in Kinshasa.
