The march initiated by four leaders of the political opposition Martin Fayulu, Delly Sesanga, Moïse Katumbi and Augustin Matata Ponyo, brought together many people this Saturday, May 20 in Kinshasa. The demonstrators demand the credibility of the electoral roll, the drop in the cost of living, generalized insecurity, very poor governance and electoral chaos. Master Hervé Diakiese, member of the Secular Coordination Committee, took part in this march, justifying his choice by the convergence of the demands made by the leaders with the ideals of the CLC.
“The CLC released a statement that we were going to ask our activists and all those who believe that the objective of this march is in accordance with our ideals, namely the credibility of the electoral roll but also the cost of living and the generalized insecurity that we are experiencing and overall the very poor governance that is leading us towards electoral chaos,” he said.
The governor of the city of Kinshasa, Gentiny Ngobila, had authorized three different political demonstrations on the day, but this was the most important. For the opposition leaders, this march is the first of a series of actions that they intend to implement to achieve their demands.
However, the political situation in the DRC remains complex and fragile. The World Bank has suspended its funding in the country, and violence continues to rage in some areas of the country, with terrorist attacks recorded in several cities. The economic situation is also difficult, despite efforts to develop special economic zones such as Musienene.
In this context, it is important that political actors work together to find lasting and peaceful solutions to the challenges facing the country. Such cooperation could make it possible to establish a favorable climate for the holding of credible and transparent elections, and to improve the lives of the Congolese people.
