“The African Commission for the Supervision of Elections (CASE) calls for the resignation of the president of the electoral center of the DRC”

The question of the African Commission for the Supervision of Elections (CASE) on the experts assigned by Denis Kadima, president of the electoral center, in the external audit of the electoral register in the DRC is at the heart of the news. According to CASE, Denis Kadima would have unilaterally chosen “so-called experts” in order to fool the nation and the opposition. These experts would mostly be his former colleagues working for the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa. Therefore, CASE urges the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, to dismiss Denis Kadima. It also warns the five experts recruited at his instigation. The Catholic and Protestant churches have also recommended the establishment of an urgent consultation framework to resolve all problems related to voter registration.

The DRC is going through a difficult period with growing insecurity in several regions of the country and a crisis of confidence in elected officials. In North Kivu, the state of siege in place provokes strong reactions from the opposition and civil society, who denounce illegal practices and the lack of efficiency.

Despite everything, progress has been made, with the adoption of a law for the protection of workers’ right to strike, hailed by the trade unions. It is also important to note the innovative work of two scientists awarded by the Director General of the WHO for their contribution to public health, as well as the Mediacongo code, a tool allowing users of this medium to create a digital passport.

In sum, the DRC faces many challenges, but continues to advance its political and social system. It is up to its rulers to work for the peace and stability of the country, which requires transparency and the confidence of its population.
