Kinshasa: Three political demonstrations authorized by the governor for Saturday May 20, 2023.

The city of Kinshasa was the scene of three political demonstrations on Saturday May 20, 2023, authorized by Governor Gentiny Ngobila. The political parties in question are the Alliance des Congolais Progressistes (ACP), a member of the Sacred Union, the UDPS Youth League (presidential party in collaboration with the other youth leagues of the Sacred Union parties) and the opposition, Envol, LGB, LAMUKA and Ensemble pour la République.

The provincial Minister of the Interior, Gratien Nsakala, detailed the routes planned for the various marches: the opposition demonstration will leave from the Sakombi roundabout, via Kasavubu Avenue and the Victoire roundabout to arrive in front of the field YMCA. The UDPS Youth League march will start from the Ngaba roundabout and drop off in front of the Tata Raphaël stadium, which is close to the YMCA pitch.

The governor called on the various political organizations to exercise discipline and supervise their activists in order to preserve public order. He recalled that the criminal and civil liability of the organizers would be engaged in the event of a disturbance of public order.

To avoid confrontations, it is important to properly supervise the activists and to ensure their discipline. The various political parties are thus invited to educate their activists on the importance of demonstrating with responsibility, to guarantee the smooth running of these demonstrations.
