DRC: The World Bank suspends its financing, the situation remains fragile and complex.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is currently going through a period of turmoil in governance and development. In a recent press release, the World Bank announced the suspension of its financing for three projects in the DRC, following the dissolution of the Social Fund of the Democratic Republic of Congo by the Congolese government. This entity was in charge of the implementation of these projects, which aimed to fight against gender-based violence, the recovery of eastern DRC and stabilization in eastern DRC.

However, the World Bank wanted to reassure the population by specifying that it is currently working with the Congolese authorities to identify the transition modalities in order to guarantee the continuation of these projects. Disbursements for the three projects are suspended until these modalities are identified.

In addition, the DRC faces other challenges such as security in the Virunga National Park, where an armed attack left four dead and six injured recently, as well as conflicts around the Kyavinyonge fishery. The East African region is strengthening its regional strength to deal with instability, with the arrival of General Kiugu.

In another order of ideas, military cooperation between the DRC and Belgium is at the center of the news, with a meeting between the deputy ministers of defense of these countries. The UN report also indicates a 12% increase in human rights violations in March 2023 in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Finally, financial governance is also contested in the DRC, with the request for the resignation of the governor of Kasai Oriental by the UDPS Tshisekedi. However, the national police of the province of Kasai is reinforced thanks to new offices and equipment.

In sum, the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is complex and fragile, with major challenges in many areas. The future of the country depends on the joint efforts of its leaders and its partners, to guarantee the stability and sustainable development of the DRC.
