Light shines at the Catholic University of Congo (UCC) thanks to a fruitful meeting of its rector, Professor Abbot Léonard Santedi, with ecclesiastical students. The discussion focused on identity, the mission to honor this identity and finally university pastoral care. The Rector emphasized that UCC should differentiate itself from other universities by imparting not only knowledge but also a system of Christian values.
He recalled the importance of the UCC motto “Lumen Super Flumen” which means “to be a light that enlightens, that illuminates humanity”. Indeed, the UCC must fulfill the three functions of light: pedagogy, moral and salvific ethics.
Professor Santedi invited all ecclesiastics to take their place in the university pastoral to help and accompany all the souls who attend the university, in order to add moral and Christian values to their scientific knowledge. He concluded by saying that their mission should be to help enlighten history, humanity and fight against corruption, cheating, intolerance and tribalism.
This meeting was organized on the two campuses of the UCC and was followed by a small refreshment offered by the rectorate. The initiative underlines the importance for the UCC to give a complete formation to the students, by combining the acquisition of scientific knowledge and moral and Christian values
