Foreign policies and economy, the challenges are daunting for Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi. Indeed, after a policy of rapprochement with neighboring countries to pacify the region, the situation with Rwanda is suffering from a setback. Relations have again been tense between the two countries since the Rwandan government’s desire to support the M23 rebels.
However, Finance Minister Nicolas Kazadi spoke about this situation during an interview with “Télé 50”. According to him, despite the war in Eastern Congo, DR-Congolese Presidents Félix Tshisekedi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame are brothers and will remain brothers whatever the cost. He also said that the Head of State Félix Tshisekedi had initiated a rapprochement with Rwanda, in particular by putting on the table the mines of the DR-Congo for a partnership with the country of Paul Kagame.
The idea would therefore be to pool the mineral wealth of the DR-Congolese and the sense of organization of the Rwandan state to create wealth together for the two peoples. The Congolese president proposed to his Rwandan counterpart to “build something positive” and to “work in synergy to develop the area together”. In short, a win-win project to strengthen relations between the two countries.
However, this situation was characterized by a crying injustice, the Congolese government revoked and imprisoned an adviser who expressed the same desire to normalize relations with Rwanda. This particularly unfair policy of double standards provoked the indignation of the ACAJ.
In sum, relations between the DR Congo and Rwanda are important for the stability and development of East Africa. However, overcoming the associated economic and political challenges will require joint development projects to create wealth for both countries and foster good neighborly relations.
