Tension is mounting between the opposition and the CENI in the Democratic Republic of Congo over the electoral register. The opposition accuses the CENI of wanting to cheat and demands that the electoral register be audited by a reputable international firm, whose expertise and independence are proven to ensure the reliability of the electoral process. Martin Fayulu, Moïse Katumbi, Delly Sesanga and Augustin Matata specified that if the CENI persists in their desire to carry out a new electoral hold-up in favor of outgoing President Félix Tshisekedi, they will use all the democratic means at their disposal to obtain their departure.
According to the opposition, knowledge of the database resulting from the revision of the electoral register in no way affects national sovereignty and integrity and has nothing to do with the protection of personal data. Thus, before the audit, it expects explanations from the CENI on the way in which it proceeded to prepare the electoral list and a report on each operational area after the closure of voter registration operations.
In addition, it requests that provisional lists be published and displayed in the various enrollment centers as well as on the CENI website, center by center, constituency by constituency and province by province.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is currently plagued by political and security tensions. Indeed, despite the determination of President Félix Tshisekedi to impose peace in the east of the country, the terrorist attacks of the M23 supported by Rwanda are sowing terror in this region.
