The President of the DRC is inspired by the model of Botswana to improve the diamond sector and strengthen internal security.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), an African country rich in resources and diamonds, is seeking to radically reorganize its diamond sector. With this in mind, President Félix Tshisekedi visited on May 11 the Jwaneng open-pit mine, located in Botswana, which is currently the world’s leading producer of diamonds by value and volume.

Félix Antoine Tshisekedi discovered the secrets of diamond production and marketing there by following the Botswana model. This model has apparently conquered the Congolese president, who has expressed the wish to duplicate it in the DRC.

It should be noted that the Congolese president also took advantage of his stay in the capital of Botswana to visit the headquarters of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), of which he is the current president. During this visit, he also met the staff of the executive secretariat of this institution, recruited from 16 SADC member countries.

Furthermore, eastern DRC, particularly in the province of North Kivu, is faced with a worrying security situation. But during his participation in the Extraordinary Summit of the Troika of SADC Heads of State and Government, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi reassured the Congolese population on the maintenance of peace in eastern DRC.

Finally, it is essential to emphasize that the DRC is determined to strengthen its defence, as shown by the historic military cooperation agreement signed with Indonesia. This agreement will contribute to strengthening security in the DRC, which is also committed to supporting the victims of the Kalehe region, victims of the latest humanitarian disaster in the country.
